Welcome to an entirely new vehicle concept. We started by discarding the traditional, rigidly defined categories and allowing ourselves to be inspired by your wishes instead. Even at first glance, it is clear that the 5.2-metre R-Class is much more than just a large Mercedes-Benz. The sleek proportions of the SUV also deliver the promise of its sporty handling capabilities.
The pleasure starts with the line-up of three powerful engines. The superbly self-assured V-6 and V-8 engines and a powerful V-6 diesel unit. Then there's the suspension, as comfortable on twisting country roads as it is on highways. Add the optional AIRMATIC DC1 Air Suspension System Package, with the Adaptive Damping System (ADS) &em; and the superb ride quality is elevated to the point where you feel as if you are quite simply floating along the road. The standard specification even includes 4MATIC™ permanent all-wheel drive for guaranteed driving pleasure, even if the state of the road leaves a certain amount to be desired. |
| When it comes to performance, the 221 hp V-6 CDI diesel engine has plenty to say. The R320 CDI attains a figure of 398 lb-ft. It's all thanks to a further enhancement of the common-rail technology with direct injection and a turbocharger with a variable nozzle turbine. The R320 CDI combines high performance with low fuel consumption and low exhaust emissions, the latter being due in part to the diesel particulate filter which is standard on the CDI engine. Unlike conventional systems, this filter operates without fuel additives, a factor which helps deliver high performance while keeping CO2 emissions low. Up to 95% of the soot particles can be removed from the exhaust gases. |
