Vehicle Overview

The SL-Class experience opens with a V-8 engine under the hood of the SL 550. Its 382 hp catapult it to 100 km/h in a mere 5.4 seconds and the 391 lb-ft of maximum torque is available between 2800 and 4800 rpm. The cylinder heads have been redesigned from scratch: timing of the two intake and two exhaust valves is taken care by continuously variable camshaft adjustment to optimize combustion of the fuel. Not only does this increase the engine's power output, it reduces its consumption and emissions too.
