Overview

The CL550 4MATIC

The 5.5-litre V-8 engine in the CL550 4MATIC™ produces 382 hp at 6,000 rpm and 391 lb-ft of torque at 3,000 rpm. Impressive, indeed.

To reduce engine weight and increase durability, the V-8 engine block is made of cast aluminium, a construction similar to that of Mercedes-Benz racecar engines. Innovative aluminium-silicon alloy cylinder sleeves help reduce friction by up to 50%. Yet with all its power, the engine remains smooth and efficient, thanks in part to four valves per cylinder, dual overhead cams (DOHC) and continuously variable intake and exhaust valve timing. Working in tandem, these technologies manage the air-fuel mixture to give the engine the power it needs, precisely when it needs it. The result? The CL550 4MATIC™ goes from 0 to 100 km/h in a commanding 5.4 seconds.
