Safety
Start with a strong, reinforced RISE chassis, with reinforced welds all around the cabin. Add crumple zones and impact-diffusing engineering throughout. Then add advanced dual-stage front airbags† and side-impact and roll sensing curtain airbags† to help mitigate injury in the event of an accident. Then finish the job right with whiplash-reducing active front seats and trim that protects against head impacts. We even thought about pedestrian safety when designing the front-end crumple-zones.
But with active skid control, anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brake force Distribution, daytime running lights and available multi-mode all-wheel drive, Outlander's pretty good at helping you avoid accidents too. Outlander's active-safety features are emblematic of our all-wheel control engineering philosophy. We gave Outlander an aluminum roof to lower the center of gravity for the same reason. We believe that keeping you in control is the best way to keep you safe. Outlander comes standard with advanced dual-stage front airbags† and side-impact and roll sensing curtain airbags† for all trim levels. Lower anchors and tethers for child-seat installation help to simplify the attachment of child safety seats to make it easier for you to help keep your child safe. The ABS technology utilized by the Outlander helps to eliminate wheel lock-up during panic or emergency braking. Wheel speed is monitored and braking pressure is optimized when impending wheel lock-up is sensed. By "pulsing" the brakes up to 10 times per second, wheel rotation is modulated in order to help eliminate lock-up and maximize driver control.
†Airbags are part of a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). To decrease the risk of injury from a deploying airbag, always wear your seatbelt, sit upright in the middle of the seat and do not lean against the door. Always place children 12 and under in the rear seat and use appropriate child restraints. Never place a rear-facing infant restraint in the front seat.
