Satellite-Linked Navigation System with bilingual Voice Recognition

Choose your own urban or culinary adventure. Utilizing satellite-linked GPS technology, the RDX can pinpoint your location almost anywhere in North America or access its search directory to help you find directions to those hard to find places, like hidden gems in the city. The system is equipped with bilingual voice recognition software, and features real-time directions by voice or guiding map display. Simply ask the system to show you the most direct route to your destination, offer an alternate route or, with the Zagat Survey Ratings®, help you find a restaurant based on your choice of cuisine.

HandsFreeLink™ and Bluetooth® - Enabled Technology

Stay connected while keeping your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road. To add a further touch of technological wonder, the RDX is equipped with HandsFreeLink™, which utilizes Bluetooth® technology to communicate with Bluetooth-enabled wireless devices, and voice recognition to respond to your commands. Just say the word – and providing your programmed mobile device is located inside the cabin – calling numbers will be displayed on the RDX's Multi-Information Display. Simply touch a button on the steering wheel to answer. As if anticipating your needs, the audio system's volume lowers, and the caller's voice is heard through the RDX speakers. What's more, the system operates in English or French, and is capable of seamlessly integrating up to six different compatible wireless devices, turning your RDX into a veritable hub of connectivity.

Rearview Camera*

Featured in the RDX Technology Package, the rearview camera shows a colour image on the navigation-system screen of the area directly behind the vehicle. Even if the navigation system is turned off, the camera is activated automatically when you engage reverse, giving you a clear picture of what is behind you.

Variable Flow Turbo (VFT)

The RDX boasts an advanced i-VTEC® turbo engine. It uses Variable Flow Turbo technology to deliver plenty of torque at low engine speeds and virtually eliminates the turbo lag associated with other turbo systems. The key advancement in the Acura system is a valve that narrows the turbo's intake passage, which speeds up the exhaust flow as it spins the turbine. As you put your foot down, the variable valve opens to allow the increased airflow to reach the turbine to keep turbo boost consistently high. Acura has also developed a unique Intercooler System to enhance the performance of the RDX's turbo engine. Get behind the wheel and let the performance begin.

2.3-litre, 240-hp, DOHC i-VTEC Turbo

The RL's VTEC engine perfectly balances low-end torque and high-end power. One drive and you'll experience amazingly responsive power across the complete rpm range. How? The innovative VTEC engine uses two entirely different camshaft profiles. At low speeds, VTEC provides lower valve lift and a shorter cam profile opening, resulting in higher gas velocities and greater low-end rpm torque. As your demand for engine speed increases, VTEC switches to a cam profile with higher valve lift and longer opening duration, resulting in greater airflow and a big boost in high-end rpm horsepower. The net result? Abundant power and a thrilling drive.

Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD™)

Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) sets the turbocharged RDX apart from any other crossover vehicle in the world. It provides superior traction on dry or wet pavement by automatically transferring torque between the front and rear wheels as needed. In fact, it can even send 100% of available rear-wheel torque to either the left or right wheel, giving you an unprecedented level of precision and control.

During Straight-Line Acceleration

The groundbreaking SH-AWD™ system offers dramatically enhanced traction, control and acceleration in all weather or loose road conditions. Accelerate and the system directs up to 45% of the engine's torque to the rear wheels to, in turn, deliver full power to the ground.

During Moderate Cornering

SH-AWD delivers a remarkably neutral steering feel as the rear wheels help generate cornering power. Electronic sensors monitor the speed and tightness of the turn, and automatically varies torque to the outside cornering rear wheel, resulting in enhanced stability and driver control.

During Acceleration through a Corner

When you accelerate through a corner the advanced SH-AWD technology stands alone. Like no other system, the outside cornering wheel gets up to 100% of the rear wheel torque and is accelerated to rotate faster than the inside cornering wheel, providing greater turning force and an incredibly stable corner line.

During Straight-Line Cruising

SH-AWD's sophisticated electronic controls automatically monitor road conditions and alternate torque from front to rear, as well as splitting rear wheel torque from left to right. The end result is a continuously smooth, stable ride in poor weather or road conditions.

5-speed Automatic Transmission

City traffic has a mind of its own. But you'll find the 5-speed automatic transmission rules the road in any situation. The turbocharged RDX's innovative Grade Logic Control System is specifically tuned to match the i-VTEC turbo power delivery. The result? Smooth and efficient gear changes.

In traffic, the transmission holds lower gears longer to prevent unnecessary shifting. And when the Grade Logic Control System senses a steep downhill grade, the system automatically prevents uphill gearing to provide engine braking. Controls and Displays

Acura has long been known for its intuitively placed and elegantly precise controls, and the RDX once again raises the bar. Climate and audio controls are easy to distinguish on the centre control panel through the use of contrasting materials and varying-sized buttons, and their status is easily seen on the high-mounted centre display. The Technology Package adds the ability to control a wide variety of vehicle subsystems through its large, full-colour screen.
A Multi-Information Display (MID) allows you to switch through various vehicle status displays, and steering wheel-mounted controls assist the driver with the audio and cruise control functions. The Technology Package adds more MID displays, plus additional steering wheel controls for the Voice Recognition and HandsFreeLink™ systems.

The multiple level console features a versatile 12.4-litre mode for laptops and handbags, a smart dual mode for smaller items, and a cavernous full mode for briefcases. And if that's still not sufficient, there's a lockable glove box too.

Contrasting the luxurious details are the sports-sedan feel of the dark charcoal and brushed aluminum trim of the cockpit. Airbags

The turbocharged RDX is designed to protect you and your passengers. That's why it comes standard with six airbags. Depending on the point and force of impact, the RDX will deploy: dual-stage, dual-threshold front airbags that activate at one of two rates depending on severity of impact; front side airbags with the innovative passenger side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS) that will not release if the system detects a child or small-sized passenger; and side curtain airbags with state-of-the-art rollover sensors.

The RDX also has Active Head Restraints for both the driver and passenger. Active Head Restraints provide excellent neck protection in case of rear impact.

Brakes

The RL offers an advanced braking system to help you drive safely. Its Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) helps maintain steering control when braking hard on wet, slippery, or loose surfaces, while Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) balances braking forces at each wheel to help compensate for passengers and the weight distribution inside the cabin. Plus, there's a Brake Assist feature that senses a panic stop and applies maximum braking power to help you stop quickly.

Stability and Traction

The advanced Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA®) system with Traction Control automatically detects and corrects understeer or oversteer situations, sometimes before you're even aware there's a need. The system intuitively analyzes the conditions and then reduces throttle and/or applies braking to individual wheels. Should a loss of traction occur during acceleration on slippery surfaces, Traction Control compensates by adjusting the amount of power put on the ground to help the tires retain their grip on the pavement.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
Correct tire pressure is critical to safety, performance and fuel efficiency. That's why Acura created the RDX's innovative Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). It continually monitors the air pressure in each tire. So if pressure drops in any tire, a transponder attached to the wheel's valve stem transmits the information to a receiver and a warning appears on your instrument panel, indicating which tire requires attention.

Maintenance Minder System
Instead of following a traditional kilometre-and-calendar maintenance schedule, the RDX instinctively calculates service needs based on how the vehicle is driven, not just how long. This advanced system takes into account engine revolutions, stop-and-go traffic experience, weather extremes and the frequency of short trips to determine when your next service visit should be. The system also helps coordinate oil servicing dates and other maintenance items to minimize your visits to the service department.

Body Structure

The innovative Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure adopts a high-tensile, high-efficiency steel body structure to provide enhanced protection from multi-directional collision. ACE reduces the concentrated force of a frontal impact by absorbing energy over a large area and dispersing it away from you and other occupants of the cabin area. Additionally, ACE is also designed to help reduce occupant injuries caused by misalignment in collisions between vehicles of different sizes.

Lighting

All RDX models are equipped with High-Intensity Discharge (HID) low-beam headlights. They cast a whiter and brighter light, which allows a tighter beam pattern to increase road visibility, enhancing your ability to identify what's ahead.
